O’Neill lands hole in one in Mulranny

Mulranny

Sunday’s Allergan sponsored stableford competition was won by Tom Mulloy with 39pts. Ger Staunton finished second on 35 pts, with Aidan Brett’s 33pts in third place. George Reilly aced the eighth hole, playing in the club four ball semi-final with partner Colam O’Neill. Using an seven iron, this was Reilly’s first hole in one.

The Mulranny Park Hotel Winter League commences this weekend. There is still time to enter your team of four, costing €80 per team. You may play Friday, Saturday or Sunday, either as your weekly four-ball or play as you please because the best two stableford cards of each team will count each week. Overall, the best six weeks out of eight will be considered. Unlimited substitution will also be allowed. This week’s 15 Holes Competition is sponsored by Mick Byrnes Bar, Castlebar and is open to all members.

Balla

In last weekend’s competition sponsored by The Rendezvous, Balla, John Parsons was the winner with a score of 51. PJ Brett came second with a score of 54, his back nine play kept Richie Murphy in third after he also finished on 54. The gross prize was claimed by Ray Mannion. In the ladies’ competition, Catherine McNulty was the winner on 53, she finished in front of Aine McDonald in second and Geraldine Kilgallon in third place.

The winners of the Golfer of the Year were, in the men's section Declan Nally, and the ladies’ section winner was Catherine McNulty. The next committee meeting takes place on Monday October 24 at 8.30pm.

Ballina

The single stableford competition last weekend which was sponsored by Gerry Kenny Sports was won by Michael McHale on 42pts, he finished one point in front of Michael Herr jr in second place with Martin Foley three points behind in third place. The time sheet for the Winter League is now posted in the main locker rooms. It is planned to run the competition over four Sundays in November, 6, 13, 20 and 27 and as was the case last year the format will be a scramble with the competition run on a shotgun start basis. The entry fee is €25 and a list of substitutes will also be compiled for the series. A race night will be held on Sunday October 30 in the club house and tickets are now on sale and available through the office or any committee member.

Ballyhaunis

In the Ballyhaunis Credit Union sponsored stableford competition Kay Keane was the top lady player finishing on 35pts, she finished one shot in front of Norrie Dillon in second spot. The gents competition was won by William Maxwell on 36pts, with Paul Hickey second and Tom Moran third. The junior prize was taken by Kevin Kilbride with 34pts.

Westport

Last weekend’s gents’ stableford was won by Michael Heneghan with a score of 38pts, he finished just one point in front of Pat Fleming in second and Phil Cawley came third back on 35pts.

The ladies’ club is organising a fund raiser for the Marie Keating Foundation at the Clubhouse on Wednesday October 26 at 8pm. A fun evening is guaranteed and tickets priced at €10 can be purchased from the any member of the ladies’ committee.

The Night of Champions Presentation takes place on Sunday next at 7pm. All club matchplays along with Golfer of the Year prizes will be awarded on the night. The night will also see the launch of the new updated Westport Golf Club website. More than 50 hours’ work has been put into the new design which aggressively looks to position Westport as the premier parkland destination in Ireland.
