Work commences on Balla pedestrian crossing

Work has started on the long awaited pedestrian crossing in Balla.

Commencing yesterday (Thursday ), Mayo Fine Gael TD John O’Mahony has welcomed the development which was spearheaded by the local No Name Club.

According to Deputy O’Mahony, when finished, the crossing will “bring to fruition the campaign to make one of the busiest streets in the county a safer place for pedestrians”.

“I say well done to the members and the leaders in the No Name Club for their work and to the officials and staff of Mayo County Council for carrying out this work,” he said. “Everyone that is familiar with Balla is aware of how busy the street is and how much traffic passes through there. The No Name Club actually carried out a traffic survey and it was as a result of their initiative and the co-operation that they received from Mayo County Council that the new crossing got the go-ahead. On its completion, Balla will certainly be a safer place for all pedestrians.”
