Reek fundraiser for Mayo CF

For the past 13 years, members of the Grady family in Murrisk have been donating proceeds from the sales of soft drinks and food on the summit of Croagh Patrick on Reek Sunday to local charities.

This year the family selected Mayo Cystic Fibrosis as their chosen charity, and in Campbell’s Pub at the foot of the Reek last week, a cheque for €1,800 was presented to Lorraine Burns from the Mayo CF organisation.

The money raised will go towards the cost of developing the specialised CF unit at Mayo General Hospital. Declan Grady, on behalf of the Grady family, said what started out as something relatively small had grown over the years and many local charities had benefited.

“It’s something that we’re very happy to do every year and we get great help from all our family members and friends. Of course, we also have to thank all those who bought drinks and food from us on the top of the Reek and without their help we would not be here tonight. It’s great for us to be able to help a charity and we’re particularly delighted this year to help Mayo Cystic Fibrosis as we’re aware of the huge developments taking place and hopefully this money will help towards the provision of the new unit,” he said.

Lorraine Burns thanked all the members of the Grady family and their friends. “Without people such as you, we would not be able to build our own CF unit at Mayo General. When it’s completed, it will make a huge difference to the CF community in Mayo, and on behalf of every one with CF in Mayo and all their family members, I want to thank you all so much. It means an awful lot to all of us,” she said.
