Top tips on how to keep your immune system healthy this winter

A Vogel's Echinaforce has compiled some of the best tips to keep your immune system healthy and happy this winter.

“The average Irish person will suffer from two to three cold and flu infections each year,” says A Vogel herbal advisor Nicola Murphy,

The best way to keep healthy is to take a couple of easy measures to protect your immune system, for example:

“Keep a sanitiser spray or wipes in your handbags to keep your hands clean. We all come into contact with other people’s germs, having a sanitiser spray handy means you can limit picking up the germs which cause colds and flu.

“Try to take off your jacket/coat on the bus to avoid overheating. Sometimes it is easy to just find a seat on the bus or train and wait for your stop, but it is better to take off your coat, so the cold air does not come as a shock to your immune system once you alight from the carriage/bus.

“Cover your mouth and nose when sneezing to avoid passing on germs that you may have.

“Stay at home if you are feeling sick. Sometimes we need to realise that when we are feeling unwell, our bodies are giving us the signs to say we need a break. If you are sick, you should look after yourself at home, and try not to expose your immune system to more germs than necessary.

“One of the best lines of defence if you are prone to catching colds and flu is to use a maintenance dose of fresh echinacea for up to eight weeks. It will strengthen your immune system helping you to avoid suffering infections all winter long.”
