A Cloonfad man who had four or five pints over the course of the night before he ‘foolishly’ went to collect a friend who had asked him for a lift from Williamstown was given a two year driving ban in Ballyhaunis District Court this week.
Sean Ronane, Ballykilleen, Cloonfad, pleaded guilty to the charges in court. Garda Emily Fahy told the court that she stopped Ronane on January 24 2011 at 1.50am in Cornabunny, Cloonfad. She got a strong smell of alcohol from him and carried out a roadside breath test which he failed. She subsequently arrested him and brought him to Claremorris Garda Station where he gave a breath sample which returned a reading of 64mg of alcohol per 100ml of breath. Judge Gibbons convicted and fined him €300 and disqualified him from driving for two years.
