Things just keep getting tougher for Castlebar in Division 1A of the Connacht Junior League, the Cloondesh side are still rooted to the bottom of the table after four rounds of games with out a solitary point on the board so far.
Last weekend they were crushed by 33-10 by Mayo rivals Ballina, who have cemented their third place in the league. Ballina ran in five tries to Castlebar’s one in the 23-point win for Ballina. This weekend Castlebar will be looking to get something out of their home game against Corinthians to get their season up and going. Ballina, for their part, will be at home to second from the bottom Galwegians and will fancy their chances of picking up the win, and maybe a bonus point to keep them in contention at the top of the table.
The other Mayo side in the division, Westport, went down to table toppers Monivea by 22-10 away from home. This weekend the Bulls, who are currently in fifth place in the table, will welcome fourth place Tuam to Carrowholly in a game the Bulls will fancy their chances of winning and jumping over their opponents in the table.
