Fianna Fáil looks to reclaim its place at ‘centre of Irish public life’

Fianna Fáil is determined to renew itself and to reclaim its place “at the centre of Irish public life”, the annual general meeting of the Castlebar/Lahardane Comhairle Ceantar was told.

Chairman John Hamrock welcomed the appointment of Lisa Chambers as Castlebar area representative for the party and said she had shown great commitment in securing such a high general election vote given that she had only been in the field for three weeks.

Tributes were paid to outgoing secretary, Margaret Tighe, who, having served the maximum term of four years, was not seeking re-election.

Seamas Rodgers was elected honorary president, and Pat Walsh honorary vice -president.

The following officers were elected for the coming year - cathaoirleach, John Hamrock; leas cathaoirleach, John McEllin; hon sec Lisa Chambers; joint treasurers, Cathal Hennelly and Gerry Feehan; delegates to Dáil Ceantar, John McEllin, Cathal Hennelly, and Junior Prendergast.
