Two Mayo projects get funding under local authority sports scheme

Two Mayo projects have secured funding under the local authority backed sports scheme. This is out of a total of nine projects nationally.

The announcement was made by Minister of State for Tourism and Sport Michael Ring, for the projects in Ballinrobe (€85,872 ) and to McConville Park in Westport (€75,142 ).

“This is a further allocation of funding for sporting facilities which are specifically designed to boost participation in sport,” explained the Westport deputy.

“All the projects are designed specifically to encourage people to take part in sport, or to try out a new sporting activity. Although this is low-level funding on a small-scale, I hope that each investment will bring about real improvements in people’s lifestyles, health, and wellbeing.

“It’s important to note that this is not a new round of the Sports Capital Programme, but it is a targeted measure for local authority facilities. No decision has been made on the timing of a new round of the Sports Capital Programme.”
