The Westport Sea2Summit – one of the country’s largest adventure races taking place on Saturday November 12 – has just announced the Gena Heraty Haiti Fund as its official charity partner for this year’s event. A percentage of each entry fee will be donated directly to the voluntary organisation, which is battling tirelessly to save the lives of the some of the country’s poorest people.
Gena Heraty, a native of Westport, has been working for the past 17 years in an orphanage run by the international charity Nos Petits Freres et Soeurs (Our Little Brothers and Sisters ) on the outskirts of Haiti’s capital city, which is home to some 450 abandoned and disadvantaged children. Aiming to help those who live in near constant fear of death and starvation in the slums of Haiti, the charity recognises that without fund raising from events like the Westport Sea2Summit its work would be next to impossible.
More than 1,000 sports enthusiasts are expected to participate in the pinnacle quest.
