Three months for church bag snatcher

A Galway woman who stole a bag from Mass in Ballindine was given a three month sentence in Claremorris District Court this week.

Ann Marie Barrett, 21 The Meadows, Ballybrit, Galway, pleaded guilty to the charge in court. Supt Padraic O’Toole told the court that during Sunday Mass on August 14 2011 in Ballindine, Barrett and an accomplice stole the bag from the seats in the church while a person went to get communion during the service, after an investigation the cash amounting to €161.38 was recovered but the bag and other contents were not.

Solicitor for Barrett, Cathy McDarby, told the court that her client had been given a 10 month prison sentence on Monday September 19 at Galway District Court for another offence and had just started to serve it. Judge Mary Devins convicted and sentenced Barrett to three months in prison to be served concurrently with the sentence imposed in Galway District Court.
