Independent Ballina town councillor Mary Kelly this week hit out at “lobbyists having private meetings with council executives”, in the lead into the reversal of phase two of the Ballina traffic management plan.
Cllr Kelly also told the September meeting of Ballina Town Council: “I was told before by a member of one committee that the traffic plan was going to be reversed by the town manager. I was very disappointed as a councillor to hear the news like this.”
Later in the meeting town manager Paddy Mahon responded to Cllr Kelly, saying: “As soon as the decision was made by this council that the second phase of the traffic management plan was made, I phoned each councillor individually that day to inform them of the decision that had been made.” Cllr Kelly responded, saying: “Well I was told two weeks before that decision was made. Some people seemed to be in the know. But I’ll leave it at that.”
