On Friday September 23 arts venues throughout the country throw open their doors for an evening of public participation in the arts. At the Ballina Arts Centre they have an array of events for the public to try out. Be it music, dance, film or printmaking, there is something for everyone.
At 6.30pm a number of short movies will be shown in the theatre while from 7pm to 10pm in the dance studio upstairs there will be a marathon Jazz Fusion dance workshop with Jackie Foley.
Visitors will be able to enjoy the printmakers’ exhibition in the Gallery and take part in an introductory printmaking workshop with Marianne Heemskerk in the brand new printmaking studio. During the evening the centre will be showcasing the music of local bands. Recordings will be played throughout the public spaces of the building using the integrated sound system.
Croí Glan Integrated Dance Company, which performs works with both disabled and non-disabled dancers, will unveil a community dance piece (created in Ballina in the lead-in to Culture Night ) as well as their piece, This Is, by award-winning choreographer Adam Benjamin.
Ballina Arts Centre will also be working with the Jackie Clarke Historical Repository on the presentation of an exciting exhibition. The exhibition – in Ballina Library – will feature selected pieces from the Jackie Clarke Collection augmented by a number of artworks from the Mayo County Council collection. All Culture Night events at Ballina Arts Centre are free of charge and open to all. For more information contact Ballina Arts Centre on 096 73593.
