Preparations for the Castlebar Music Festival 2012 are now under way with a new committee being recently formed after a series of public meetings that were held at Bar Ritz in Castlebar. The newly elected committee consists of Adrian Ryan (chairman ), Paula McDonnell (secretary ), Gary Monaghan (treasurer ), and Finbar Hoban (public relations ).
The new committee aim to bring the best music festival possible to Castlebar on the 2012 June Bank Holiday weekend. Under the working title of BarCastle Music Festival, the plan is to expand on the old format of the Blues Festival to include more varied genres of music and more open-air performances.
The committee’s mission statements reads: “It is the committee’s mission to make the 2012 Castlebar Music Festival a multi-genre, family friendly, festival, including free entertainment and activities for all ages and tastes, day and night, for the duration of the festival.
“By providing top quality live music, with an emphasis on Irish original acts, and involving local groups, organisations, and businesses, we aim to make Castlebar the prime destination for tourists and music-lovers alike from Ireland, the UK and Europe each and every June Bank Holiday weekend.”
The committee also thank all the pubs and local businesses that took part in the recent festival survey to help gather information about how best to proceed with next year’s festival. Initial fundraising events will be taking place in the coming weeks including a table quiz in Rocky’s Bar on Wednesday September 28 at 8pm, and a live rock night happening in Castlebar Celtic Clubhouse on Saturday October 8 at 9pm.
Anyone wishing to get involved or put forward any suggestions or ideas can email the committee at [email protected] or find it on Facebook at Bar Castle Music Festival.
