€516,977 funding for six sports projects in Mayo

Minister of State for Tourism and Sport Michael Ring has announced €516,977 in funding for six sports projects in Co Mayo.

Minister Ring has announced a sports scheme providing funding to Mayo County Council for a wide range of sporting projects, as follows: Balla - multi-use games area €82,800; Ballina - multi-use games area €68,248; Castlebar Town Park - multi use games area and outdoor fitness installation, €103,995; Greenway Project, Westport – outdoor fitness trail €85,000; Pollranny - multi-use games area €106,925; Westport Leisure Park - refurbishment of changing facilities, fitness suite and active retirement room, and sports equipment €70,009.

The Minister commented: “I’m delighted to be able to announce this funding, which is designed to encourage more people to get involved in sport. This money should also stimulate work, protect jobs and hopefully create new ones.

“Every one of these is an excellent project which will be used by the community.

“This isn’t a new round of the Sports Capital Programme, but rather a targeted measure for local authority facilities. No decision has been made on the timing of a new round of the Sports Capital Programme, but I hope to be in a position to announce further allocations in the very near future.”
