Will Mayo’s contenders jump to the top of the Q?

Four local Mayo businesses have just been revealed to be amongst the top contenders at this year’s national Q Mark awards.

The star-studded ceremony, which will take place on October 14 at Dublin’s Burlington Hotel, will see almost 500 business owners and managers walk the red carpet amongst TV stars and the business elite to compete for the 25 biggest awards in quality and excellence.

The really great news is that our four Mayo businesses are up for big Q awards this year in the hotly-contested categories of Hygiene and Food Safety and Quality Management Systems.

At a time when Mayo businesses have had one of the toughest trading years ever, these four companies have kept their customers to the fore by insisting that quality matters in adhering to the Q Mark criteria, which ensures that they have not simply adhered to legal requirements but have actually surpassed them.

Jockeying for position in the Q Mark for Hygiene and Food Safety category are Casey’s Quickstop in Ballina and Sodexo at Ballina Beverages, while in the Q Mark for Quality Management Systems Mayo North East LEADER Partnership Company, who provide services to the unemployed, are nominated for the first time as national finalists.

The bread and confectionary manufacturer O’Hara’s of Foxford are in the enviable position of being nominated in both categories and have in fact won major Q Mark awards in previous years.

The Q Mark is now recognised by 87 per cent of Irish consumers, having created standards of the highest quality and excellence in hygiene and food safety, quality management systems, nursing homes, leisure centres and the Q Mark for accessibility, ABLE.
