Mayo County Council has given the go-ahead to the Swinford area office to CPO land at the back of Main Street, Swinford, for the provision of car parking.
There will be approximately 13 landowners affected who will be invited to inform the council what their valuation of the land is and then the process of purchasing the required land will commence.
This has been described as a positive move by director of services for the area Paddy Mahon. Mr Mahon said the project will lead to the regeneration of the town centre when the 90 new car parking spaces come on stream.
