At last Friday night’s Belle of Breaffy competition organised by Breaffy ladies GAA Club which was part of the Breaffy Blast Festival held in the village, Aoife Connaughton was crowned the Belle of Breaffy. As part of the competition, Aoife recited a poem she had written in tribute to the late Carmel Jordan who sadly passed away this summer. Carmel had been deeply involved in the ladies football club and other community activities until her passing. This is the poem that Aoife wrote and recited on the night
A Tribute To Carmel Jordan.
Along the slim horizon
Among the seven seas
The crisp brisk wind
That rustles through the trees
The ebb and flow of the ocean
And crystal clear lakes
The golden rays of sunshine
And frosty snow flakes
I live in everything around you
I am close to your heart
I am in your memory
However distant apart
We raise our glass to Carmel
A friend so kind and dear
Laugh a little just like her
You shall not shed a tear
The Belle of Breaffy, Barn Dance
and 10K run
A festival we will remember
Who said things can’t be done
The spirit of the GAA
And victories ahead
It makes Breaffy’s community
A family instead
We thank the organisers, sponsors and mentors
Through all the strain and stress
They put in a fantastic effort
To make this night a great success
So tonight as each Belle
Addresses the cheering crowd
Everyone united
Carmel I know you are so proud.
