To mark the first anniversary of the late Mick Lally, the actor’s first theatrical home, the Druid Theatre in Galway this week unveiled a specially commissioned seat in the foyer of the theatre to remember Lally’s work.
Tourmakeady native Lally was a household name in Ireland thanks to his work on stage and in television, he will probably be best remembered for his role as Miley on RTE’s Glenroe. But it was in the theatre that Lally first rose to prominence and where he returned to in the last few years of his life. Lally was a founder member of the Druid Theatre in Galway in the mid-1970s when he was a student at University College Galway and he continued that association with the theatre all through his life. The specially commissioned “Mick’s seat” was unveiled on Wednesday in the foyer of the Druid and was attended by the actor’s widow Peig, daughter Saileog and son Darrach.
