Mayo community projects add a splash of colour

The people of Mayo are doing great work across the county by helping out in their local communities. Earlier this year, the Dulux Let’s Colour Project called upon Irish communities to take up their paintbrushes to give the ‘mood of the nation’ a boost by helping transform dull grey spaces into colourful happy places. The Let’s Colour team at Dulux Cork received a superb response from Mayo people — all community players who are keen to improve their local community with colour.

Among the projects selected was the Charlestown Outdoor Community Swimming Pool at Lowpark. Locals decided to make the space a lot more welcoming and playful by painting the grey boundary walls to the pool. According to Charlestown Swimming Pool PRO, Maureen McEntire, “The Charlestown Outdoor Swimming Pool is just a great resource for children and parents locally. We’ve had great ideas about re-painting it to make to a little brighter and more ocean-like even when being used on the grey summer days.”

Other Mayo projects to receive help include the Castlebar Celtic Football Club, the Ballina 5th Mayo Scout Den, Parkside Community Garden in Ballina, and Ballina Neighbourhood Youth Project. So if your local area or community looks a little sad and is in need of a colourful lift, get planning and watch out for the Dulux Let’s Colour Project 2012 so you can make a difference in your community.
