A man from Balla appeared before a holiday sitting of Castlebar District Court on Wednesday after he was arrested and charged following an incident which occurred on the evening of August 21 at Woodlands, Balla.
Garda Seamus Smith told the court that Thomas McDonagh, 11 Woodlands, Balla, was charged with criminal damage to a patrol car, for being threatening and abusive, and for being intoxicated in a public place. McDonagh replied “nothing” to each charge.
Inspector Martin Byrne asked that additional conditions be attached to McDonagh’s bail; that of a 10pm to 8am curfew; that he reside at 11 Woodlands, Balla; and that he sign on at Castlebar Garda Station three times a week.
Legal aid was granted to McDonagh, a married father of six who is a carer for his wife.
Judge Conal Gibbons remanded the defendant on continuing bail to Castlebar District Court on October 5 for DPP directions. Inspector Byrne said that there was a “strong possibility” of further charges.
