The Fianna Fáil organisation in Mayo is urging a full turnout of members for the visit of party leader Mícheál Martin to the constituency on Monday September 5. It will be the first visit of the party leader to the county since the general election.
Mr Martin will address the Mayo membership at the Welcome Inn Hotel, Castlebar, at 8pm.
Urging a full turnout of party members for the occasion, Lisa Chambers, Fianna Fáil area representative, said the visit is part of the nationwide tour by the party leader to speak to and hear the views of party members in every constituency.
“Mícheál Martin is anxious to meet all the members of the organisation to listen to their views on the future of the party and to discuss what we must do to ensure the return of Fianna Fáil to the heart of Irish politics,” said Ms Chambers.
“This is the first step in the recovery of our party and it is vital that our members have their say in that process by meeting and talking with the party leader,” she continued.
Ms Chambers said she wanted to emphasise that this meeting was open to every member of Fianna Fáil throughout Mayo.
“In spite of our setbacks at national level, we here in Mayo still have a vibrant, loyal, Fianna Fáil organisation, and our members are determined to see the party return to its rightful place at the heart of Irish public life,” she said.
“I urge all members to show their support by their attendance to meet our party leader next Monday night.”
