The All Ireland Football Championship is entering its final stages and as both Mayo and Roscommon prepare to line-out in Croke Park on Sunday, supporters in the west of Ireland are gearing up for a great day of football. But there is another competition that is heating up, the SuperValu Search for Ireland’s Number 1 Real GAA Supporter, and Ballaghaderreen native Cliona Mulvaney has been named one of the four finalists in this year’s competition.
Cliona lives and breathes Mayo football and has been attending games since she was a little girl. When Mayo reached the All Ireland Football final two years ago, Cliona painted her car red and green for the trip to Croke Park. Cliona also got GAA pundit Pat Spillane to visit her local club and managed to persuade the proud Kerry man to don a Mayo jersey for the occasion.
“I am absolutely honoured to be named as a finalist in SuperValu’s Search for Ireland’s Number 1 GAA Supporter,” Cliona Mulvaney said. “If I win the competition, I would like to put €10,000 towards ladies’ football in Charlestown GAA Club. I play for the ladies’ senior team, and would really like to invest the money in equipment for all the ladies’ teams. I would also like to put some money towards improving our training pitch so that all of our members would benefit from the money. I hope all people of Mayo get behind me and vote online at www.SuperValu.ie ”
