Newport man Tom Chambers is once again heading to Strasbourg in September in order to participate in the Strasbourg Freedom Drive campaign which is organised by the European Network on Independent Living and the Centre for Independent Living in Dublin.
The freedom drive, which will take place from September 14 to 16, is a lobbying campaign attended by people with disabilities from all of Europe, in order to establish a relationship between the participants and their national members of EU parliament.
Mr Chambers said that since 2005 he has been attending the event, which he said is extremely important in petitioning MEPs in order to fight for equal rights, opportunities, choices and responsibilities of disabled people around the world.
Accompanying Mr Chambers on the trip will be his personal assistant Kathy Kilbane. In order to attend the week, all participants of the campaign have to cover the costs themselves by individually raising money and therefore Tom Chambers needs to raise €2,000 and he is appealing to local people to assist him in raising this money.
