Ireland West Airport Knock experienced its second busiest July in its 25 year history with 73,237 passengers travelling through the airport in the month. This is the seventh consecutive month of passenger growth at the airport. Some 367,000 passengers have travelled through Ireland West Airport Knock in the first seven months of the year, a 16 per cent increase over the same period last year, the largest passenger increase of any airport in Ireland in 2011.
Passengers from Ireland’s biggest tourism market, the UK, grew by six per cent in July and are up 11 per cent this year to date. Commenting on the increase airport MD Joe Gilmore said the dramatic increase of 16 per cent so far this year was partly due to the ash cloud cancellations in 2010 but that he expected the overall 2011 passenger levels to show an increase of nine per cent on 2010 levels, making it potentially the busiest year in the airport’s history.
