€500,000 for Westport enterprise project

A capital grant of €500,000 has been confirmed for the creation and development of new enterprise in Westport.

The grant announced by the Tanaiste and Minister for Enterprise and Employment Mary Coughlan TD has been granted to the Westport Multi Agency Enterprise Group comprising Westport Town Council, Westport Chamber of Commerce and local business interests.

The news has been warmly welcomed by Fianna Fáil Councillor Margaret Adams who has been campaigning strongly with local deputy Beverley Flynn to secure funding for the group’s initiatives

“This grant is a huge boost to local enterprise to help Westport develop its industrial potential even further,” said Cllr Adams.

“This grant will be allocated to the setting up of a business incubator unit which in turn will provide the foundations for new and emerging businesses to grow and develop,” she added.

Confirmation of the allocation has been welcomed by Beverley Flynn TD who worked closely with task force members and Cllr Adams in engaging with government agencies on behalf of the group.

“I am delighted that the work of the Multi Agency Group has been given official recognition by way of the substantial capital grant,” she said.

“I believe it will act as a springboard for new industries and will encourage entrepreneurs to come forward with new ideas and strengthen Westport’s employment base,” said Deputy Flynn.
