Tail-wagging fun will take centre stage at the Royal Theatre, Castlebar, on August 14 for the Royal Family Fun Day, which includes a great novelty dog show in aid of MSPCA.
The event is hosted by the Mayo Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, so all support is greatly welcome. Registration for the dog show categories starts at 12 noon, so be early. There will be lots of fun categories for both children and adults. Entry into each category is only €3, so it is expected most dogs will enter a few categories, and there is a good chance your dog will be taking home a prize. Multiple categories will be discounted.
Does your dog have the waggiest tail, or will he be the most handsome dog on the day? Maybe you and your pooch will win the most lookalike category. This dog show is all about fun, and the opportunity to show off your best pal. The event encourages all dogs, from puppies to older dogs, to get in the ring and strut their stuff.
Stroll at your leisure through the market place with plenty of arts and crafts stalls with homemade preserves, jewellery, and a range of handmade delights.
In addition to all the entertainment, the event will focus on the welfare of animals. Visitors may talk face-to-face with lots of canine experts on any dog-related topic and learn how to best care for their pet. It is a great opportunity to get advice in training, grooming, and the healthcare of your dog.
"Rescue Row" is an area of the show featuring rescue dogs from the MSPCA, some of which will be looking for new homes. For all those who have adopted dogs in the past, please drop by and say hello, as it is always great to hear success stories about the dogs that have found their forever homes. They are great ambassadors for the cause. Best of luck to you all in the best rescue dog category.
Event Capture Photography will be on hand with a full studio kit, so it is a great chance to get that professional portrait of you and your dog at a great price. Or maybe it is time to upgrade the family portrait and include the new puppy.
Special attractions and other events include bouncy castles, face painting, barbecue and refreshments, kiddies’ disco, and doggie obstacle course.
It is a great day’s entertainment that will carry on until 6pm. There is no entry fee on the day, and most activities will take place indoors, in the main theatre hall, so rain, hail or sunshine, fun is guaranteed.
