Museum events

This August visit the Museum of Country Life, Turlough for some fun events for all the family.

From August 2 to 31, learn about Pattern Days — find out what life was like 100 years ago and learn about seasonal customs.

€2 per adult. Free for children aged 16 years and under.

A Donkey Day will take place on Friday August 12 from 11am to 4pm. Join the team from The Donkey Sanctuary, Cork for demonstrations of donkey feet trimming throughout the day.

On Sunday August 14 from 2.30pm to 4pm a workshop in traditional games will take place and a picnic.

Children under six should be accompanied by an adult.

Painting with watercolours for adults will take place on Thursday August 18 from 2pm to 4pm, under the guidance of artist Sinead Wall. No booking required, first come, first served.

Drop-in activities: Friday August 19 from 11am to 1pm, drop in to the Knitting Circle, or on Saturday August 20 from 3pm to 5pm, a drop-in activity will be a Music Circle.

Comedy theatre

Looking for some comedy sunshine? The ever-popular Beezneez Theatre Company returns to the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar with the rollicking summer farce Don’t Dress for Dinner, on Wednesday August 10 at 8pm.

Traditional concerts

The Full Irish series of traditional concerts at the Linenhall Arts Centre continues with top musical combo Julie Langan, Verena Commins and Pádraig Ó Broin on Thursday August 11 at 8pm.

Also, top drawer harp and fiddle duo Laoise Kelly and Michelle O’Brien will perform on Thursday August 18 at 8pm.

The Full Irish feast of traditional music at Linenhall Arts Centre runs until August 25. Tickets for all concerts in programme are only €15, €12 (concessions ), and there is a family ticket of €45 for a family group of four. For full details see www.thelinenhall.com

Dynamic theatre

The gripping story of a boxing comeback is brought vividly to life in the dynamic Fight Night, a one-man play featuring a remarkable performance by Aonghus Óg McAnally, at the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar on Thursday September 8 at 8pm.

Custom House Studios

Custom House Studios at Westport Quay are pleased to host an exhibition of new works by Betty Gannon from August 4 to 28. The exhibition is entitled Fray and Fragment.

Rachel Agnew will also host her exhibition entitled Flux Drawing from August 4 to 28.
