Pamex Limited, the Castlebar based company which specialises in the marketing and promotion of niche pharmaceutical products, has announced the appointment of Diarmuid Gavin as a director of the company.
The Tourmakeady born native who joined Pamex Limited in January 2007 as general manager has contributed in a major way to the growth of the company over the past number of years.
His departure a number of years ago from a senior position in a major multinational pharmaceutical company, to a Mayo based niche player in the pharmaceutical sector, provided both “a tremendous challenge and an opportunity,” according to Mr Gavin.
“When one considers that such a small company like Pamex has over 50 products in its portfolio, with a turnover of over €2 million, the potential for growth is enormous, but must be worked on. Despite the doom and gloom, we are continuing to grow as a company and our strategy is to continue on that path.”
Having started in 1995 from being on the dole for the previous nine months as a result of redundancy, Tom Murphy remained true to his roots by establishing Pamex Limited in Castlebar. Pamex is probably best known for its 100 per cent natural shaving oil called Total Shaving Solution, which is manufactured by Cosmetic Creations in Claremorris, and is sold in many countries throughout the world.
However another side to the business is the eye care and dental portfolio of products which contribute handsomely to the company, according to Mr Murphy. With more national product launches being prepared for the coming months, Pamex Limited has recently embarked on an export strategy to market its dental range of KIN dental products in the UK.
“This is an important commercial step for Pamex into a market with sales potential 15 times the size of Ireland,” Mr Murphy said. “As our new director, Diarmuid will be driving that programme for growth, and I have no doubt that it will be a challenging task to establish our products and company in the UK, especially in the current economic climate. Our focus is on company growth and we will be relentless in achieving our goal.”
