Over €200 worth of cannabis resin found in Ballinrobe apartment

Cannabis resin with an estimated street value of €200 to €240 which was detected in a premises led to the owners receiving a conviction at Ballinrobe District Court this week.

Sergeant Stephen Clarke gave evidence that a search warrant for the premises of Shane Ward with a listed address of 52 Parkmore Estate, Tuam (but who was living in Ballinrobe at the time ) was obtained in relation to another matter and on March 21 the warrant was executed. While performing the search Sgt Clarke found a black Wavin pipe with a black plastic bag hidden inside in the attic of the premises. The bag contained two pieces of cannabis resin. Ward initially denied that the drugs were his but later called the garda station to inform them that it was his cannabis and that it was for his own personal use.

Ward, who has no previous drug-related convictions, was convicted and fined €500 by Judge Mary Devins.
