Family dispute led to court appearance

Two men who were involved in a dispute with members of their family appeared before Ballinrobe District Court this week where they both pleaded guilty to section four public order offences.

Superintendent Padraic O’Toole outlined that on June 10 this year at 11pm, gardaí responded to a family dispute on Abbey Street, Ballinrobe where Michael Sweeney, 42 Abbey Street, Ballinrobe and Martin Sweeney, 43 Abbey Street, Ballinrobe were in an intoxicated state and were directing abuse at members of their family.

The court heard that following the incident the men furnished a letter of apology and have not consumed a drink since. Martin (31 ) is unemployed, while Michael (30 ) is completing a youth outreach course. Both men have previous convictions.

Judge Mary Devins convicted and fined the Sweeneys €50 each.
