The Minister for Communications, Energy, and Natural Resources, Pat Rabbitte, launched the Google Silver Surfer Awards with Age Action at Google’s EMEA headquarters in Dublin.
For the awards, Google and Age Action are calling on people across Mayo to nominate people they know aged over 50 who has made technology a part of their daily lives, whether they use it for work, to tweet their thoughts, to keep in contact with family abroad, or build their social network.
Last year's winner of the Silver Surfer Awards was 95-year-old Evan Hassell from Dublin. Mr Hassell was nominated by his granddaughter Rebekah who said that he texts and emails her to distraction. Mr Hassell received the overall award for his avid use of the internet and of his mobile phone.
