Two Polish nationals who while racing each other along the road from Ballinrobe to Partry overtook on continuous white lines and on blind bends were convicted, fined and disqualified from driving at Ballinrobe District Court on Tuesday.
Katarzyna Retowska, 1A Pearse Terrace, Westport and Pawel Dziki, 7 Pearse Terrace, Westport were on May 23 at 11.45am observed by two sergeants —who were travelling in an unmarked garda patrol car on their way to Westport Garda Station— racing each other where they were seen overtaking on continuous white lines and blind bends. The defendants, who were stopped by the gardaí, had no explanation for their actions and just explained that they were travelling to Newport.
The defendants, who represented themselves in court, were both convicted and fined €700 by Judge Mary Devins and disqualified from driving for two years.
