A 31-year-old man from Knock who was caught smoking heroin outside a filling station in Castlebar pleaded guilty at Castlebar District Court on Wednesday.
Jamie Robinson, 20 Carromore Drive, Knock was observed by Garda Russell Gibbons on 4.15pm on April 11 smoking heroin inside his car which was parked outside the Corrib Oil filling station in Castlebar, while he was waiting for his girlfriend.
The street value of the amount of heroin which he had in his possession was €2. Robinson, who is originally from the UK and is a long distance lorry driver, had previously addressed his drug problem, however he only relapsed that day after obtaining a small amount of the drug.
Judge Mary Devins said that his behaviour was very “bizarre” as he was “so obviously” using heroin in a public car park. The judge adjourned the matter until January 7 next year for a probation report and also asked the gardaí to investigate whether the defendant had any other convictions in other jurisdictions.
