A 23-year-old father of two, with 32 previous convictions, who tried to bite a garda during a public order incident was before Castlebar District Court on Wednesday.
At 12.30am on January 1 2011, Garda John Murphy was outside the TF Hotel, Castlebar when security staff notified him about a person who was involved in a fight in the nightclub earlier that night. Gda Murphy spoke to Terry McDonagh, 116 Manor Village, Castlebar, who was intoxicated and who was aggressive and abusive to the garda.
The garda tried to restrain the defendant, who then tried to bite Gda Murphy. The garda called for assistance and other gardaí arrived. McDonagh was asked to desist, but refused and he was pepper sprayed and restrained.
The court heard that McDonagh had consumed whiskey, beer and Xanax that night.
Judge Mary Devins convicted and fined McDonagh €75 for disorderly conduct.
