Three month ban for driver who didn't appear in court

A Castlebar man was given a three month driving ban and fined €170 by Judge Mary Devins in Claremorris District Court this week. Garda Ray Guilfoyle told the court that he stopped John Carty of 46 White Horse Lane, Turlough Road, Castlebar at 10.30am in Ballindine East, Ballindine for driving using a mobile phone.

Carty who had a number of previous convictions for road traffic offences including speeding and driving in a bus lane, did not appear in court to face the charges. Judge Devins convicted and fined him along with imposing the disqualification.
