Shell to Sea protesters halt Shell's peat works

Four Shell to Sea protesters blocked a Bord na Mona site at Shramore, near Bangor on Tuesday morning, in order to prevent Shell from removing peat from the site.

In a statement released by Shell to Sea, they say that 125,000 tonnes of peat from the site are to be removed in coming weeks, “while rural communities are faced with a turf cutting ban”.

A banner saying “Turf Cutting - One law for people, One law for Shell” was hung on the gates of the Bord na Mona site.

The protest continued for a second day on Wednesday.
