Taoiseach Enda Kenny has welcomed funding from the Department of Tourism, Transport and Sport under the Jobs Initiative and Sustainable Travel Projects. A total of €97,150 will be allocated for the provision of 20km of cycle lanes along arterial routes serving the Ballina area. The funding allocation also includes for the provision of signage and information on these cycle lanes. This funding is part of the recent Jobs Initiative to provide for greater use of sustainable transport as well as creating employment.
Taoiseach Kenny said: “This funding of almost €100,000 will play an important part in making travelling by bike much safer in the Ballina area. As a keen cycler myself, I recognise the importance of this infrastructure and I hope it will play an important part in creating tourism in the area. Another important benefit will be the employment that will be created under this funding from the Jobs Initiative. I hope the work can commence as soon as possible and I thank Minister of State, Alan Kelly, TD for this project as it will make a positive impact to the local Ballina area.”
Minister of State for Tourism and Sport Michael Ring has welcomed this announcement and he believes “it will be of great benefit to the people of Ballina and the people who are visiting Ballina.”
