Mayo County Council fails to obtain funding for ‘ghost estates’

Mayo County Council is one of six local authorities to have not sought funding from the Department of Environment in order to fix urgent health and safety problems in 180 “ghost estates”, the Irish Times has reported.

The €5 million funding, which allows local authorities to address safety issues, where local authorities have been unable to get any developer, site owner or other party to take responsibility, has been available to be drawn down since April. However, Mayo County Council, which has four such estates, made no application for such funding
