A 31-year-old man who was detected drink driving as he made his way from Westport to Ballinrobe was disqualified from driving for three years at this week’s sitting of Castlebar District Court.
On November 6 2010, Eddie Sweeney, 7 Westbury Court, Quay Road, Westport, was stopped by gardaí at 11.21pm at Knockaphunta, Castlebar.
The defendant was arrested for drink driving and provided a breath specimen at the station which gave a reading of 76mg of alcohol per 100ml of breath.
Sweeney, who has no previous convictions, decided to drive from Westport to where he resided in Ballinrobe at the time, due to the fact that he had not enough money for a taxi.
Judge Mary Devins convicted and fined him €450 and disqualified him from driving for three years.
