Woman ordered to pay €75 to charity for public order incident

A woman who was found kicking at a door of a house and then lunged at the occupant of the house when the door was opened was ordered to pay €75 to Hope House by July 19 and she will be given the benefit of the Probation Act, at Ballyhaunis District Court this week.

Garda Alan Ryan told the court that he was called to a disturbance at Clare Street, Ballyhaunis on February 11 2011 at 11.05pm where he found Valerie Reid, Palace Road, Elphin, Co Roscommon kicking at the door of a house. He went up to the house and spoke to her and when the door of the house was opened she lunged at the occupant, who was her estranged husband. She had to be restrained by gardaí and arrested at the scene.

Solicitor for Reid, Evan O’Dwyer told the court that his client had separated from her husband after they had been married in the UK for a number of years and in the days leading up to the incident she had spent time with him. There was an incident involving alcohol on the night in question and she was ejected from the house by him. He went on to say that they had now separated completely and she was living in Elphin. Judge Devins ordered Reid to pay €75 to Hope House by July 19 and she would give her the benefit of the probation act.
