A €9 million upgrade for the Lough Mask Regional Water Supply Scheme which was announced by Minister Phil Hogan this week has been welcomed by Minister of State at the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport Michael Ring.
Mayo County Council has been given approval to invite tenders for the upgrade of the water treatment plant at Tourmakeady, the upgrade and expansion of the existing raw water high lift pumping station at the lakeshore, the laying of an additional raw water rising main, and a minor upgrade of the water intake for the Lough Mask Regional Water Supply Scheme.
“This vitally important project which is being funded under the Department’s Water Services Investment Programme 2010 – 2012, has a contract to commence construction during the period of that programme at an estimated cost of over €9 million,” confirmed Minister of State Ring.
The upgrade will ensure that that consumers supplied from Lough Mask will have a high quality water supply that will have capacity to meet current and future needs.
“It will now be a matter for Mayo County Council to invite tenders with a view to upgrading the water treatment plant at Tourmakeady as quickly as possible,” concluded Minister Ring.
