Oxegen campaign to stamp out drink and drug driving

A major road safety awareness campaign is being launched this week to coincide with this weekend’s Oxegen music festival at Punchestown, Co Kildare. The campaign is focusing on drink and drug driving.

This national campaign is headed by Kildare County Council, the Kildare Joint Policing Committee and the Regional Drugs Task Force and is supported by Mayo County Council, the Road Safety Authority and concert promoters MCD.

Noel Gibbons, road safety officer for Mayo County Council, welcomed this campaign. “We are requesting people to travel to and from the concert in a safe manner,” he said. “Motorists are asked not to drink and drive or use drugs as it not only endangers the life of the driver, but also that of others.’’
