The Mayo Advertiser would like to extend an open invitation to all our readers and advertisers to the launch of Buy Mayo, our weekly campaign which highlights the benefits of shopping locally.
The launch will take place by An Taoiseach Enda Kenny on Market Square, Castlebar, on Friday next, July 8, at 3pm. We have an exciting afternoon of events lined up to celebrate all things Mayo with local food producers, highly entertaining Mayo rock band Strayed, and a trad session from award winning members of the Healy family from Castlebar.
The festivities will kick off at 2pm and continue until 4.30pm with face painting and a children’s entertainer lined up also.
We at the Mayo Advertiser are extremely heartened by the overwhelming response we have had to this campaign since it first featured in paper on June 10.
As part of Buy Mayo we are giving away €100,000 in free advertising by way of €50 vouchers to anyone who ‘likes’ our Buy Mayo Facebook page and sends us their company name and contact details to [email protected]. You will also be added to our FREE online business directory with a Google map locator, check it out at www.advertiser.ie/buymayo We have some exciting events lined up over the coming year to continue the momentum, starting with business marketing seminars by a leading marketing firm this week.
Competitions, products and promotions of the week, business profiles, Test Toni, business networking, and the use of social media to promote Mayo businesses will all form part of the campaign. Let’s all work together to keep Mayo working by supporting our local businesses and service providers.
Heart of Castlebar Street Festival – Castlebar Beo Aris
Live entertainment, craic agus ceol, will take centre stage at Castlebar from July 21 to 23 2011 as Castlebar traders in conjunction with Visit Castlebar will host the Heart of Castlebar Street Festival – Castlebar Beo Aris.
Croí Chaisleán an Bharraigh will coincide with the official opening of the beautiful new streetscape in “downtown” Castlebar by An Taoiseach Enda Kenny on Saturday July 23.
“This inaugural street festival is the perfect opportunity for traders to promote the beautiful new shopping area in downtown Castlebar and to highlight all that Castlebar has to offer,” Kathryn Brennan, a key organiser of this event, said at the launch. “In a time of general doom and gloom, it is uplifting to be involved in such a positive event, which will see the town at its best, and we encourage all traders, patrons and customers to get involved and check out the festival. It would be our hope to build on this year’s street festival and to make it an annual event.”
Shoppers will be delighted with the promotions throughout participating stores on Thursday and Friday, July 21 and 22. MWR will kickstart the proceedings and broadcast live from Castlebar from 11am to 5.30pm on the Thursday.
On the Saturday a fantastic line up of artists, markets and entertainers including an exciting live samba band, puppeteers, and many others will take to the streets with live music and fun from 11am onwards. This free, family, fun day is an event not to be missed with live music and entertainment set to continue in a number of local bars and gastro-pubs.
See the Mayo Advertiser in the coming weeks for a full programme of events or check out www.castlebarchamber.ie where a full programme of events will be posted over coming days.
