A 33-year-old, who was described by Judge Mary Devins as a “public nuisance”, was given a three month jail sentence at this week’s sitting of Ballina District Court.
The parents of Bernard Long, 12 Ferran Terrace, Ballina, called gardaí to their home on May 28 as their son was causing a disturbance at their house.
The defendant, who was intoxicated, was abusive to gardaí.
Two other cases against Long were heard at previous sittings of the district court.
The first related to May 2010, where €450 was given to the defendant for a hi-spec bike. Gardaí were contacted when Long did not hand over any bike after payment was received. No compensation has been paid in this matter.
Long also stole a 1.5 litre of vodka and Gillette blades from Dunne’s Stores on December 6 2010.
On Tuesday Judge Devins convicted and sentenced Long to one month in prison for the gain by deception charge. For theft in December, Long was convicted and sentenced to one month in prison consecutive and for being threatening and abusive in May, the defendant was convicted and sentenced to one month consecutive.
