There will be a number of medals coming home to Mayo from the Special Olympics World Games in Athens next week. Four Mayo athletes — Deirdre Gannon, Paul Kavanagh, Mary McDermott and Deirdre Gannon — are taking part in a hectic few days of competition.
The two Deirdres picked up silver medals early in the week when Deirdre Garvin won silver in the bowling doubles competition, with Deirdre Gannon winning silver in the mixed doubles bowling competition. Mary McDermott came fourth in her bocce competition. Paul Kavanagh is taking part in the table tennis competition, which will get under way today.
