Minister of State for Tourism and Sport Michael Ring has suggested a voluntary price charter for hotels and other accommodation providers in order to prevent prices being raised significantly for rooms during major events.
“It’s great to be able to tell the world that Ireland now has some of the best value hotel rooms in western Europe,” the Minister said. “However too many people around the world still regard Ireland as a high-cost destination, even though there have been big falls in prices in the last few years. So we must all work hard to ensure that we all keep sending the value message and that our new-found value stays in place.
“Reports of high prices being charged by hotels and other accommodation providers during major sporting and music events won’t do us any favours,” he added. “That’s why I am calling on the industry to adopt a new voluntary charter to guard against prices being raised significantly on such occasions, as reports of price rises could give potential visitors the wrong impression.”
