Mayo could be welcoming home a gold medal from the European Senior Boxing Championships this weekend. Islandeady man Ray Moylette who boxes for the St Anne’s Club in Westport beat Hajiliyev Hebatulla from Azerbaijan in the semi-final of the 64kg competition on Thursday afternoon in Ankara.
He will now go on and compete in the final today against Thomas Stalker from England. The competition is being streamed live online at www.aibaboxingtv.com In his quarter final Moylette defeated Russian Maksim Ignatiev 14-13 in a tight last eight bout on Tuesday afternoon. As a youth Moylette claimed the World Youth Championship gold medal in 2008 in Mexico.
