Some 45 million people around the Middle East are to see images of Mayo on TV, following the recent visit of a crew from Middle Eastern television station MBC1.
Invited by Tourism Ireland in Dubai, in conjunction with Fáilte Ireland, the crew captured footage from around Ireland for the station’s popular morning show Sabah Al Khair (meaning Good Morning in Arabic ), which regularly attracts more than 45 million viewers each day.
During their time in Mayo, the TV crew visited Ashford Castle near Cong and filmed the ancient art of falconry at Ashford Castle’s School of Falconry. They also captured footage on board a cruise of Lough Corrib with Ashford Castle’s historian and cruise captain Patrick Luskin.
“Exposure on popular TV programmes like Sabah Al Khair helps us to raise awareness of Mayo and the island of Ireland in the Middle East and will help us grow visitor numbers from this market,” said Amanda Burns, Tourism Ireland’s Asia manager.
