Forty nine submissions received by Castlebar Town Council in relation to bus stop

Castlebar Town Council received 49 submissions in relation to putting a bus stop in the town closer to Mayo General Hospital as part of their planned refurbishment works of the Mountain View area of the town.

Currently the bus stop is located on Stephen Garvey Way, a road that links Mountain View with Hopkins Road in the town, a couple of hundred metres from the entrance to Mayo General Hospital. Town manager Seamus Granahan told the June meeting of Castlebar Town Council that the decision on the bus stop location was down to Bus Eireann, as to whether it would provide a service there. Labour Party councillor Harry Barrett proposed that representatives from Bus Eireann be asked to come to the July meeting of the council so the members could hear what their plans were for Castlebar. This proposal was seconded by Fianna Fáil councillor Blackie Gavin.
