Mayo companies recognised as Business Ambassadors

Mayo companies Pamex Ltd and PEL recycling have been recognised as InterTradeIreland Business Ambassadors for Mayo at a special event held with Minister Richard Bruton, Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation in Dublin. More than 80 TDs and senators were also in attendance at the event which recognised SMEs that have excelled through North-South trade and innovation.

PEL Recycling, which is based in Balla, established itself as a major manufacturer in recycling equipment and a leading supplier of bottle crushers, cardboard and plastic balers, food waste disposal units and oil filler crushers. Its products are used throughout the commercial sector with customers in Ireland, the UK and Europe. The company was supported by InterTradeIreland to target the market in Northern Ireland for its products and as a result, PEL has increased both sales and market share within the region.

Also recognised as an InterTradeIreland Business Ambassador was Castlebar based Pamex Ltd. The specialist marketing company specialises in the promotion of both prescription pharmaceutical medicines and personal healthcare products to consumers. Brands promoted include Camex Lip Balm and Total Shaving solution. The company was supported by InterTradeIreland through its Acumen sales and marketing programme to develop business opportunities in Northern Ireland.

“Support received from InterTradeIreland greatly enabled us to expand our business by employing a full-time sales representative in Northern Ireland, an area where we had no presence up to then,” said Pamex Ltd managing director Tom Murphy. “As a result, our business has increased and our experience there has been so positive that we are now preparing launch plans for all of the British market. Being a Business Ambassador for InterTradeIreland has given me the opportunity to expand our business north of the border and to apply the knowledge acquired in a positive way. This has increased our sales, profit and employment. In a word – it’s been invaluable.”

The group of InterTradeIreland Business Ambassadors were also invited to meet President Mary McAleese at an exclusive reception at Áras an Uachtaráin to mark their achievements, where she described the companies as ‘Champions of the future and leaders of change’.
